Hi, I am Susan Deak, Director of
the Wellness & Total Learning Center. I extend a warm welcome
to each of you and invite you to explore your own unique wholeness
and balance of body, mind and spirit. As you browse through this sampling
of WTLC, I hope you are stirred to visit 715 W 30th St to take a deeper
look at how WTLC can help you find your own nswers. We at WTLC believe
"you are your own expert." You are the only one who lives
with you 24/7. You know you better than anyone else. You, then, are
responsible for you and your own choices. WTLC provides opportunities
to explore, grow, and learn so that you will have a greater range
of options in order to make the best, most informed choices for you.
WTLC's approach to wellness is founded on John
Travis's Wellness Model. This model is based on balance and John's twelve
indexes offer you an opportunity to measure your own wellness. Each
of you is encouraged to develop your own wellness plan that is customized
to your particular needs. Because each person's plan is unique, people
use WTLC in varying ways. They make use of one or more of the center's
six major focuses that facilitate learning, healing, growth or other
transformation. Some come to attend one of our on-going regular classes,
such as Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Yoga and Restoring Your Natural Hormone Balance.
Others come to enjoy speakers and workshops on various topics like,
World Religions, Relationships, Angels In Your Life, Coping with Chronic
Illness, Acupuncture, Energy Healing, Play, Laughter and Herbs. Some
come to do research on nutritional supplements, essential oils, homeopathic
remedies and complementary therapies. Some shop in the WTLC store for
the above mentioned items as well as books, glycerin soaps, essences,
gifts and more. Some come to receive a private session with a practitioner
for example, Reiki, Massage Therapy, Spiritual Counseling, Reflexology,
Healing Touch, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Stress Coaching, and Hypnotherapy.
Some look for intuitive guidance with a reader. Others come to use the
library to borrow popular and hard to find books, audio and videotapes.
Many have come to spend quiet time in meditation or in contemplation
and reflection walking the outdoor labyrinth. Others come to meaningful
discussions at book-circles, poetry, painting or craft class. And some
come to find comfort and encouragement through a support group that
is facilitated at WTLC such as the Living! with Cancer Support Group,
Fibromyalgia Support Group or Lupus Support Network..
There is no requirement for anyone to become a
member of WTLC in order to participate in the activities. Member benefits
include discounts on some products, classes and practitioner sessions
as well as those listed in this website.
WTLC is guided by a Board of Directors composed
of professionals from the community committed to the mission and strategic
plan. This thirteen-member board is dedicated to keeping WTLC viable
and focused on providing a safe place for people to explore wellness.
The center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose funding comes
from membership dues, classes, workshops, practitioner sessions, sales
from the store, grants, private donations and fundraising projects.
WTLC is run mostly by volunteers and Senior Aides.
The presenters, speakers and practitioners are all independent contractors.
I am currently the only paid employee. My accreditation as a Community
Health Education Specialist helps me guide people in their search for
their own answers to issues of health and well-being. My certification
in Healing Touch has provided me with an important background in the
connection of body, mind and spirit in healing.
WTLC publishes a bimonthly newsletter, "Spirit"
which is sent to about 1,500 homes and organizations in our community.
"Spirit" includes the full schedule of classes, special events,
availability of practitioner sessions as well as articles about each
of the six focuses of WTLC. To obtain a schedule of current events call
to be placed on the "Spirit" three-issue trial mailing list.
Office hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Monday through Friday but you
can always find interesting, helpful people here during scheduled activities,
often during evening hours and some weekends. Our labyrinth is available
24 hours a day.
It is very important to call if you are interested
in attending an event because whether or not a class runs is determined
by the number of pre-registrants. If you are interested in scheduling
a practitioner session, please call 440-997-5353 to make an appointment.
For other information, continue exploring our website. I invite you
to visit WTLC in person to explore the variety of opportunities, available
to you here, in following your own path to wellness.
Namaste',
Susan
