The Mission of the "LIVING!" with Cancer Support Group, is to provide people living with cancer, and their families and friends, a place to join with others to build social and emotional support. This organization offers support and networking groups, lectures, and various social events to meet the needs of its members.

The Motto of the group is: "DON'T EVER GIVE UP"

The support group meets every Friday - 10 am at WTLC.
Survivors, family, friends and caregivers are welcome.

If you would like to participate in a support group but find that Friday morning is not convenient, please let us know so that meetings can be set up at other times and days to meet your scheduling needs.

Potlucks are held twice a month: at Noon on the First Friday and 5:30 pm on the Third Tuesdays

Donations to the group are Tax Deductible

And should be made payable to: WTLC - CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

  • Silently pray or meditate whenever and wherever you are.
  • If you have a spiritual advisor, pastor, priest or Rabbi, keep them informed of your status. Remember, you are NOT bothering them when you call. That is why they are your spiritual advisor - to be with you through all phases of your life.
  • Try to accomplish one task a day.
  • You need time to wallow in self-pity, but then move on - redirect your focus.
  • Keep your sense of humor.
  • Laugh about something. Some treatment side effects, when viewed from a different perspective, are funny.
  • Don't withdraw.
  • Live one day at a time.
  • Maybe get a pet!
  • Get as much information related to your particular cancer as you can handle.
  • Try the Regional Cancer Center, the Internet (your public library can help there), the American Cancer Society, or other support groups. Share this information with your family and friends.
  • Take a list of questions and concerns with you to the doctor.
  • Choose doctors you are "comfortable" with.
  • Ask for copies of your test results. You do have a right to know what's going on. Put them into a loose-leaf notebook and take it with you to new doctors especially. It helps them to have your medical history right there.
  • You have a right to a second opinion and to participate in your treatment decisions.
  • If possible, take someone with you: they can catch what you miss.
  • Perhaps mail questions to your doctor before the visit. He can then prepare answers ahead of your appointment.
  • Build your positive support system.
  • Call someone on the list who may have had similar problems or concerns.
  • Tell close family members and/or close friends what you need.
  • People who are used to helping others forget to ask for help. Recognize your limits and let others know when you have reached that limit.
  • Vent if you need to! That's what our cancer support group is for!
  • Listen to your favorite music.
  • Dance a little, even if it's in your imagination.
  • Be thankful for something and everything.
  • Look around you. Some of the best things in life are free.
  • Do you worry? All cancer survivors worry sometime. This is normal.
  • Distract yourself with any of the above.
  • Come to our group meetings. They are free. The only "membership" requirement is that you have been diagnosed with cancer or care about someone with a cancer diagnosis.
  • For a brochure of testimonials from some of the LIVING! with Cancer Support Group members call the office 440-997-5353.
